The rare Vox UL730 that was used in recording the Revolver
album and Sgt. Pepper's Sessions will be up for auction next month by Bonhams,
a privately owned British auction house.
The amplifier was used by the late George Harrison and is
expected to bring in between $80,000 and $100,000 when it opens for bidding
December 15.
"Very few amps used by the Beatles have come to auction
before, and to find one that was used on two such significant albums is truly
rare and exciting," Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia Consultant Stephen
Maycock said in a press release announcing the upcoming sale.
Until earlier this year, the amp's owner didn't know it used
to belong to Harrison . When it was taken in
for repairs, an engineer noticed that "George Harrison" had been
etched on to the amp. Additional research further confirmed that the
amp had been a part of music history.
The Vox UL730 amplifier is one of just 26 thought to still
be in existence, according to Bonhams.
